The LUOA school year consists of 41 weeks (180 days) of instructional work for academic credit to be granted for full-year courses and 22 weeks (90 days) for semester courses. LUOA does not require parents/guardians to notify anyone regarding missed days of school since the pace is family-controlled, and students can make up days according to their own schedules. If any student is struggling due to an illness or family issue for more than 10 days, parents/guardians should notify teachers and academic advisors so they can pray for the student and offer extra assistance as needed. LUOA expects students to work in each course regularly. Students not submitting work for a course in a 30-day period without notifying LUOA will be administratively withdrawn from that course, and a grade of FN (“failure for non-completion”) will be placed on their transcripts. Tuition will not be prorated for courses that result in a grade of FN.
We encourage students to review LUOA’s Student Handbook.
A course is closed with a grade of FN if a student has started the course but remained inactive for 30 consecutive days or more. Prior to this, LUOA sends reminder emails after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days of inactivity.
A dual enrollment course is closed with an FN grade if a student has been inactive in the course for 21 full, consecutive days.
In an effort to encourage attendance, students will typically receive an email encouraging them to engage in the course when they have ceased attendance for 10 full days and 15 full days.
Professors may also proactively reach out to these students encouraging them to engage throughout their period of inactivity.
Finally, if an FN is posted to the student’s account, they will be notified through e-mail that the FN grade has been posted.
A course is closed with an FN grade if, at the expiration of the course’s allotted time, the course has not been completed and an extension has not been requested and approved.
Students are given 22 weeks to complete a semester course and 41 weeks to complete a full-year course. Progress can be tracked in the Observation Deck in Canvas.
A course is closed with a grade of FN if the student requests a withdrawal in the last month of the course (non-dual enrollment courses only).
All semester exams, module tests, and Tier 3 projects or papers must be completed, and the student must have fewer than 10 zeros per full-year course OR fewer than 5 zeros per semester course for blank submissions.
You can access the forms to request a course extension or appeal a grade of FN on our Current Students page. You can also review the Student Handbook for more information.
“Inactivity” in online courses is a failure to submit assignments in Canvas. Simply logging into Canvas or accessing course materials does not count as activity.
If you need to withdraw from an LUOA or dual enrollment course, please contact our academic advising team. A parent/guardian must request a course withdrawal from the academic advisor. They will process everything accordingly and work with Student Accounts to update any necessary financial obligations.
We encourage you to review our Student Handbook for additional information on our withdrawal policy.
Families are given a risk-free 30-day trial of our program. If you choose to withdraw before the 2nd month starts, we will withdraw (W) the course(s) and issue a full refund of the tuition.
The application fee ($25.00) and payment plan fees ($50.00) are not refundable.
If you withdraw any time after the 30 day period, you will have begun the second month and should be charged accordingly.
Liberty University Online Academy is a K-12 educational institution that allows eligible high school students to enroll in Liberty University Online courses through the Dual Enrollment Program. Liberty University shares all educational records related to dual enrollment courses with Liberty University Online Academy. Those education records can be accessed by contacting the Liberty University Online Academy at (866) 418-8741, LUOACurrentStudents@liberty.edu, or you can access our Live Chat.
If a Liberty University Online Academy student is enrolled in a dual enrollment program or is otherwise enrolled in a postsecondary course, the parent or legal guardian must maintain a PIN that will allow the parent or legal guardian the ability to inspect and review any postsecondary records shared by Liberty University with the Online Academy as part of their student’s LUOA enrollment.
Once an Online Academy Student turns 18 or matriculates into Liberty University as a Liberty University student, inspect and review permissions transfer to that student. Students may then remove the PIN via their ASIST student record. If the student wishes to allow their parent or legal guardian continued access to their education records no action is needed.
Using Liberty’s FERPA PIN system, the student may grant permission to release some or all private information to persons whom he or she designates. This can be accessed through the student’s ASIST account. Go to the General Information tab on ASIST, and then select the FERPA Personal Identification Number menu option.
