PSY 4320 South University Contemporary Context of Gender Discussion

Contemporary Context of GenderThe feminist view of gender argues against biological determinism and the claim that gender is socially constructed. You have discussed the factors that influence the distinct masculine and feminine roles and gender typing. You will now have the opportunity to share your views and support them with research-based materials. In this discussion, evaluate a case study and analyze your own gender development. Share factors and influences in your own personal development as well as new information gleaned from research. Demonstrate your grasp of relevant terms and theories by utilizing them in your assignment content. This will help your instructor measure your comprehension and application of material. In the preparation for the analysis paper, complete the following:Evaluate the following case study from The Baby Boomer's Handbook for Women.Case Study: Darlene's StoryThese political times greatly impacted my life and personality. Boomer women were demanding equal rights as they discarded their girdles and garter belts and burned their bras. It was during this era when the civil rights legislation brought new opportunities for women. We were attending graduate school and working at well-paying careers. We had demonstrated the ability to juggle home, children, and careers. It was also during this time when many of us began our gender-bender missions. We were challenging the stereotypical image of the 1950s. I, myself, entered the military in the 1970s, which was during a time when women were not totally accepted, even though we played an important role in the Vietnam era. After the military, I entered law enforcement and again pushed the gender role stigma. At the time of my law enforcement career, there were only five women in a department of three hundred men. Later, the department grew to five hundred men and still had only seven women. As women boomers, we were accessing many nontraditional roles and employment opportunities that had previously been considered "male only." There were also men entering the nursing field during this era. Unfortunately, they too were subjected to the same type of stereotypical comments. I would ask myself, "Why can't men be receptionists, hairdressers, and nurses, or why can't women work as construction crews?" (Eastman, 2008).References:Eastman, L. E. (2008). The baby boomer's handbook for women(pp. 541–550). Prospect, KY: PWN Books. In a 2- to 3-page analysis paper in a Microsoft Word document, address the following:Compare the contemporary context and theories of gender, gender development, and gender identity with the case study viewpoint.Analyze and describe whether gender-bender missions still exist. Identify the areas where you see that the lines of gender roles are being blurred or are no longer relevant.Support your response with research references to gender theories.

Homework Questions

Attention will be directed towards the private sector’s ability to adapt to changing conditions and withstand and rapidly recover from disruption due to emergencies through various preparedness and mitigation efforts.View Full DescriptionOne of our primary course objectives concerns government’s expectation of the private sector as it relates to resiliency; its ability to "bounce back" from the effects of a critical incident. Actions taken by this sector within all five mission areas (prevention, protection, mitigation, response & recovery) can aid in attaining this shared goal. Therefore, describe specific steps a private sector organization can take (an organization operating within one of the critical infrastructure sectors you focused upon in Week 2), activities that are associated with at least two of these mission areas that can collectively produce a more resilient organization, community, and thus our nation overall. In addition to other applicable resources, you may find the following documents useful for your post:National Prevention FrameworkNational Protection FrameworkNational Mitigation FrameworkNational Response FrameworkNational Disaster Recovery FrameworkForum Grading Rubric: Answers the forum question(s) with a relevant, coherent and scholarly initial forum response (>250 words) 20/20; demonstrates lesson comprehension in forums with no more than 10% of content as direct quotes 15/15; employs complete and proper APA in-text parenthetical citations of the required readings for this week 10/10; responses to two classmates initial forum answers (>100 words each) 20/20; quality answer to professor follow-up question 20/20, main forum has APA reference list at end of forum (including the required readings) 5/5; reads and acknowledges professors end of week wrap up forum 10/10.Note: your primary forum post answering the assigned question for the week is due on Thursday by 1155PM EST, and per the syllabus you can lose up to 5 points per day for late work.Instructions: Craft your main forum answer is like a short paper directly answering the topic of the week with a well written response that fully utilizes the required readings for the week with at least 250 words. Focus only on the assigned question(s) in a scholarly manner using in-text citations from the required readings (save your personal experiences and opinions for your four forum replies in any given week). Each sentence quoting or paraphrasing any ideas or information from any source must be cited properly including the author and year of publication. Do not cite the APUS lessons -- they are just basic information to start the week off and is not meant to be a primary source for you to reference in your reply (to receive full credit you must utilize and cite the listed required readings for that week). If directly quoting from the readings (or other scholarly sources), you must also include the page or paragraph number that you are quoting from like (Hoffman, 2006, p.7) or for articles and sources without pages (Renner, 2016, para.15). If you are directly quoting and there is no page number to cite, then you manually count the paragraphs and cite that number. You also need to have an APA style reference list at the end of your post listing the sources employed. For more on APA citations and reference lists see the APUS Style Guide for APA. You must first provide your own initial forum answer before replying to any classmates or the professor. The four replies of the week are more of a free flowing classroom discussion which offers you an opportunity to leverage your relevant personal experiences and express your thoughts and opinions. Respond to at least two other students initial forum answers with a minimum of 100 words each. In your replies to classmates you may offer your opinion on the topic of the week, substantially support or supplement another student’s answer, or even politely disagree with or challenge their forum answer (but do not ask your classmates questions, or do so only as a last resort per the forum philosophy). You will also reply to my follow up question in your own forum string, and also read and acknowledge the Professor wrap up forum I post toward the end of the week. Also, do not be afraid to respectfully disagree with the readings or a classmate where you feel appropriate; as this should be part of your analysis process and employing critical thinking and academic freedom. Forum posts are graded based on demonstrated knowledge of the lesson and weekly readings, relevance, timeliness, as well as clarity and quality of analysis and synthesis. Sources utilized to support answers are to come from the weekly readings, but other credible and scholarly sources may be used to supplement (but not replace) the assigned readings. However, dictionaries, encyclopedias and Wikipedia are not scholarly and are not acceptable sources in college level work. Do not use non-scholarly open websites as sources for your reply to the main forum answer. All forum work must be completed within the academic week. When replying to the main forum answer make sure to include your name in the "topic title" of your initial forum answer/response.

University of London Complexity of Eating Disorder Recovery in The Digital Age Discussion

Through this week’s Learning Resources, you become aware not only of the prevalence of factors involved in the treatment of eating disorders, but also the societal, medical, and cultural influences that help individuals develop and sustain the unhealthy behaviors related to an eating disorder. These behaviors have drastic impacts on health. In clinical practice, social workers need to know about the resources available to clients living with an eating disorder and be comfortable developing interdisciplinary, individualized treatment plans for recovery that incorporate medical and other specialists. For this Discussion, you focus on guiding clients through treatment and recovery. To prepare: Review the Learning Resources on experiences of living with an eating disorder, as well as social and cultural influences on the disorder. Read the case provided by your instructor for this week’s Discussion. Post a 300- to 500-word response in which you address the following: Provide the full DSM-5 diagnosis for the client. Remember, a full diagnosis should include the name of the disorder, ICD-10-CM code, specifiers, severity, and the Z codes (other conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention). Keep in mind a diagnosis covers the most recent 12 months. Explain the diagnosis by matching the symptoms identified in the case to the specific criteria for the diagnosis. Explain why it is important to use an interprofessional approach in treatment. Identity specific professionals you would recommend for the team, and describe how you might best utilize or focus their services. Explain how you would use the client’s family to support recovery. Include specific behavioral examples. Select and explain an evidence-based, focused treatment approach that you might use in your part of the overall treatment plan. Explain how culture and diversity influence these disorders. Consider how gender, age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and/or ethnicity/race affect the experience of living with an eating disorder. Note: You do not need to include an APA reference to the DSM-5 in your response. However, your response should clearly be informed by the DSM-5, demonstrating an understanding of the risks and benefits of treatment to the client. You do need to include an APA reference for the treatment approach and any other resources you use to support your response. Required Readings American Psychiatric Association. (2013h).
